What Takes Root

Painting is like sculpting. Building, pushing, pulling. In this painting of the mangroves of Costa Rica, I tried to express the tangled mess of roots. I don’t know what species the primary tree is, but in Costa Rica they call this group of all trees and vegetation a “mangle.”
